Dubai's sunny park aims to set a new world record

The world's largest solar park, located in Dubai, will have the world's tallest energy tower and the largest thermal energy storage capacity.

In the sunny park of Mohammed Ibn Rashid Al Maktoum in Dubai, the world's tallest solar energy tower will be built, which will help provide more than 270 thousand households with clean energy.

The 260-meter-tall tower will generate 700 MW of clean energy, which in turn will help reduce carbon emissions by 1.4 million tons per year. In addition, the project will implement the world's largest thermal energy storage facility. The project cost reaches 3.8 billion US dollars (14.2 billion dirhams).

Previously, the park was already famous for being able to provide citizens with the cheapest world electricity, the cost of which was 7.3 US cents per kilowatt hour (kW / h).

"We will continue to implement the most ambitious projects that have a positive effect on people's lives," said the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed.

"Renewable energy is the key to sustainable development, the UAE is setting a good example for other countries."

The "Dubai 2050" clean energy strategy aims to generate 75% of the total electricity from clean sources in Dubai.

“In order to achieve such an ambitious goal, by 2050 we will need to produce more than 42 thousand MW of green renewable energy,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Thayer, head of the Dubai Electricity and Water Resources Department (DEWA).

"This project will make the most significant contribution to the implementation of the task."

Al Thayer added that by the Expo 2020, the solar park will generate 464 MW of clean energy. This will fully serve the work of the Expo. Thus, Expo 2020 will be the first such exhibition, the activities of which will be fully provided by environmentally friendly energy sources.

Recall that this facility is the largest solar park in the world. According to expectations, by 2020 its capacity by 2020 will increase to 1000 MW, and by 2030 to 5000 MW.
