The presidential elections in the United Arab Emirates on February 29 were recognized as held. Most voters in Abu Dhabi voted in favor of Dmitry Medvedev.
On March 2, 100% of the ballots were processed at both polling stations in the UAE. According to the chairman of the election commission at the Russian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, adviser to the embassy Pavel Merkulov, over 96% of registered voters voted to the Russian Emirates.
134 citizens of the Russian Federation in AbuDhabi voted for Dmitry Medvedev, 19 for Gennady Zyuganov, 12 Russians for Vladimir Zhirinovsky. The leader of the Democratic Party of Russia Andrei Bogdanov received one vote. 8 were ballots invalidated. Two polling stations worked for Russians permanently residing in the UAE: No. 5204 at the Russian Embassy in the United Arab Emirates in the capital city of Abu Dhabi, and No. 5205 at the Russian Consulate General in Dubai. In the UAE, the elections were postponed until February 29 by decision of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation, due to the fact that the official day off in the Emirates falls on Friday.
