Dubai Unveils Tariffs for New Public Transport System

Payment for services of the Dubai public transport system, which includes the metro, city buses and water buses, from September will be made both by traditional paper tickets for one trip by each type of public transport, and Nol Cards with plastic cards that provide travel on all types of transport .

The Dubai Roads and Transport Committee has offered passengers four types of travel plastic cards, including Gold (Nol Gold Card), Silver (Nol Silver Card), Lilac (Nol Purple Card) and Red (Nol Red Card) .

The fare on the Dubai Metro will range from AED 1.8 (US $ 0.48) to AED 6.5 (US $ 1.76) per trip. The minimum distance that a single trip should cover with any type of public transport or several of its modes at the same time is 3 km. It will cost AED 1.8 (US $ 0.48) if the passenger uses the Nol Cards, and 2 AED (US $ 0.54) with a traditional paper ticket.

The maximum payment of 6.5 AED (US $ 1.76) applies to paper tickets. Owners of plastic travel cards will be able to cover a similar distance for 5.8 dirhams (US $ 1.57). When paying for a trip by subway, service with other types of public transport within one trip will be free. The system provides reduced fare for schoolchildren, students and people over 60 years old. Children under 5 years old will be able to use Dubai public transport for free.
