Dubai is actively preparing for the eighth international film festival DIFF

To participate in the 8th Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF), held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the UAE, ruler of Dubai, more than a thousand applications and films from more than 100 countries were submitted.

The DIFF selection committee will have hard work - to participate in the current film forum, which will be held in Dubai from December 7 to 14, 1,760 films from 106 countries were presented.

More than a thousand paintings from this list are short, documentary, and full-length feature films that have previously been featured in competitions such as Muhr Emirati, Muhr Arab, and Muhr AsiaAfrica. The remaining number of films of various genres will take part in the film festival on a non-competitive basis.

Traditionally, the largest number of films were presented from India - 160, France - 109, Iran - 106, Egypt - 91, USA - 87, UAE - 71, Lebanon - 58, 45 each from Germany, Palestine and South Korea, Morocco - 48 , Tunisia - 34 and several other countries. Competitors who have expressed their desire to participate in DIFF will represent countries with a well-developed film industry, such as France, the USA, South Korea and China, as well as those that have just begun their development in this field, such as Mali, Ghana, Cameroon, Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia, Chile and Venezuela. Filmmakers from Syria, Libya, Tunisia and Egypt, who reflected the events of the "Arab Spring" in their works, expressed their desire to become regional participants in the festival.

Filmmakers who will be selected to compete in the Muhr Competition will compete for 36 awards and a total prize pool of US $ 600,000. In addition to this, the winners will have the opportunity to establish important contacts in the world of the film industry, which will contribute to their further development and success.

They will also be eligible to participate in international competitions such as FIPRESCI, the Human Rights Film Network Award and the People's Choice Award.

In 2010, filmmakers from Egypt, Lebanon and Morocco received the largest number of Muhr Arab Awards. The winners from other countries were representatives of cinema from China, Cameroon, India, Ghana and Iran. In competitive screenings, pictures of Russian, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz and Uzbek filmmakers were shown.

Recall that the main sponsors of the Dubai International Film Festival are such large companies and organizations as Dubai Studio City, Dubai Duty Free, Dubai International Financial Center, Dubai Pearl, Emirates Airline and Madinat Jumeirah. The festival is sponsored by the Dubai Office of Culture and Art.
