Kilian - perfume as a work of art

The young and impressive perfumer Kilian Hennessy, a graduate of the Sorbonne. He wears strict white shirts and black suits. After graduation, the best “noses” of the most prestigious perfume houses Christian Dior, Paco Rabanne, Alexander McQueen and Giorgio Armani were engaged in his training. Moreover, being the grandson of the creator of the world's most popular cognacs Hennessy and the founder of The LVMH Group, Kilian decides on an unexpected act. He does not follow the path beaten by his family and does not create new varieties of cognac and brandy.

In 2007, he registers his own brand and creates unique spirits with equally unique names ("Taste of Paradise", "Love, Do not Be Shy", "Love and Tears" and the like). His creations can be purchased in the most famous stores in the world. In Dubai, the Paris Gallery in Dubai Mall was first chosen as such a place, and in January of this year, a section featuring perfumes by Kilian also appeared in Harvey Nichols multi-brand department store. Only two colors are involved in its interior - white and black. This is the whole of Kilian. And this attracts the increased attention of the fashionable public. It would be unforgivable to miss Kilian Hennessy's next visit to Dubai and not ask him a few questions.

Kilian, what do you present to Harvey Nichols customers this time around?

The completion of a love story. I added the last fragrance to my main collection, and I will not return to the topic of love. In it, I have already voiced the different stages in the development of relations between a man and a woman in the aromas of "Prelude to Love", "Love", "Beyond Love", "Love and Tears" and others. I think for today this topic has exhausted itself.

However, my customers will find a unique atmosphere created especially for those who like to shop slowly, comfortably sitting in the art deco chairs that I created specifically for Harvey Nichols Dubai.

Tell me, which of your spirits can be called world best sellers?

I don’t know how things are in Dubai, but judging by global sales, it’s the fragrance for women “Love, Don't Shy” and the men's fragrance “Straight to Heaven”. In addition, the Arabian Nights collection and a particularly pronounced aroma based on the oud “Rose Oud” are very popular in the Middle East.

What have you devoted the last year to?

We have developed Kilian brand presence in different parts of the world. Over the past year, I have opened several branded departments in Harvey Nichols galleries in London, in Manchester, Istanbul, Dubai and Hong Kong.

Moreover, our appearance in Hong Kong coincided with the official opening of the Harvey Nichols department store in this city. I consider this a great achievement, as I release niche fragrances for a knowledgeable audience. However, I did not fly to Hong Kong, but went straight to Dubai, because I love this city, and it is here that I want to present my new creations.

What ingredients do you like to work with most when creating your aromas?

I still do not put any restrictions on myself and my team while working on the fragrance. In my perfume there are Turkish roses, and Mediterranean jasmine, and Lao honey. I really like experiments.

Kilian, since you completed the “love story”, how are you going to please the fans of your talent further?

In my products, presented in boutiques in different countries of the world, you can feel the highest level of quality and the product itself, and everything that surrounds it - a bottle, boxes with a satin backing, brushes, ribbons and so on. Today I introduced to the market a collection of women's clutches from Kilian, which is based on the once-developed perfume box. Everything turned out by chance.

Once my girlfriend and I went to a party, and she forgot her clutch at home. Therefore, she didn’t think of anything better than getting a Kilian perfume bottle out of the box, putting her phone and lipstick in it and going to the party. This idea caught my attention.

And now I have my own collection of accessories - black patent leather ladies' clutches with mother-of-pearl, gilding, various inlays and a pocket for a credit card ...

What is this for? After all, ladies usually come out accompanied by a man?

So, just in case. Suddenly, she decides to leave the party alone or with another man? Women are so unpredictable (laughs) ...

In general, are you satisfied with the result?

In my opinion, it turned out pretty well. Today, my clutches can only be bought at Harvey Nichols in London and Hong Kong, as well as at TsUM in Moscow. Maybe soon clutches will appear in Dubai. But I would not want this line to become mass, I like exclusivity more.

Your perfume is one of the most expensive in the world. Who are your fans?

My perfume fell into the luxury segment, but it was not an end in itself. Simply, I believe that perfumery has become so massive today that it has ceased to be interesting and unique. My perfume costs about $ 200 per bottle, but the beauty is that you can refill this bottle as many times as you like.

That is, you can enjoy the look of the bottle on your table all your life. For me, the luxury is that you don’t throw away the thing that you like if it runs out of content. This is probably why my creations attract many women, including famous ones - Nicole Kidman, Kylie Minogue, Salma Hayek and others. I am pleased that they chose my perfume. In addition, among the fans of my perfumes there are many Russian buyers.

Are your favorite colors still within the scope of the monochrom, judging by the design of Kilian products and departments in the department stores of the world?

Yes, I stand my ground - white and black. These are the most elegant colors in the world. They are eternal. They are classic.
