9.3 million tourists visited Dubai last year

In 2011, 9.3 million tourists visited Dubai, which is 10% higher than the previous year. Such data are provided by the Department of Tourism and Commercial Marketing (DTKM). At the same time, 2.3 million people stayed in hotels. The number of daily hotel stays exceeded 32.8 million, which is 23% more than in 2010. The emirate’s apartments also recorded an increase of this indicator to 9.5 million daily stays compared to 7.5 million last year. The average length of stay increased to 3.6 days, or 12%. Hotel sector revenues amounted to almost 16 billion dirhams (US $ 4.4 billion) and increased over the year by 20%: almost 13.6 billion dirhams (US $ 3.7 billion) earned hotels, 2.2 billion dirhams (US $ 600 million) accounted for apartments.

Khalid bin Sulayem, Director General of DTKM, said: “We have achieved great success in increasing tourist flow thanks to our initiatives to enter the markets of developed countries and to develop emerging markets. High incomes of hotels and apartments indicate the dynamic development of the hospitality industry in Dubai.” He said that last year he contributed to the overall growth trend and cruise tourism.

According to bin Sulayem, in 2011 DTKM was expanding its presence in many countries of the world. Today, 18 representative offices of this organization are already working in the world. This year promising advertising campaigns take place in Australia and New Zealand, their effectiveness can be evaluated at the end of the year. DTKM also plans to take part in 25 major international tourism exhibitions and conduct master classes on hospitality in Dubai in 10 countries this year.
