Carrera y carrera

The history of the company originates in 1885, in a small jewelry workshop in Madrid, where Jose Esteban Carrera created jewelry that was popular with the then aristocracy. He became the founder of the now branded animalistic style of the House.

In 1975, the founder’s great-grandchildren, cousins Manuel Carrera, a famous sculptor, and Juan Jose, a gem-cutting master, stood at the head of the company. The brothers not only joined forces in deciding to bring family business to a high international level, but also gave it the current name, made up of two of their identical names. Moreover, it was Manuel Carrera who began to widely apply the principles of sculpture in his jewelry and came up with most of the artistic techniques, such as the unique metal plastic, which are still used in collections. Manuel Carrera has set a new high standard for the quality of Carrera y Carrera products, thereby finally shaping the style of the House. The 1980s and 1990s were the period when the House successfully conquered international markets, including the Russian one. At the beginning of the 21st century, in 2001, another Spanish company - Lladro porcelain manufactory became the main shareholder of the House and the owner of a package of 58% of the shares. Five years later, the producer of the famous porcelain art bought out the rest of the shares and invited Natalie Gage, President of Carrera y Carrera, who had at that time twenty years of experience in companies specializing in the luxury market, who had already worked at Cartier and Christofle and served as President of Van Cleef & Arpels in the USA.

In 2010, the jewelry house again changed its owners - according to official figures, it was acquired by a group of Russian investors "with entrepreneurial projects in various business fields" who wished to remain anonymous. Details of the transaction were not disclosed. Natalie Gage remained in her former position.
