Dubai's restaurants are color coded

Starting next year, the municipality of Dubai introduces a new color coding system for restaurants and catering. In 2016, color coding will be applied to 14,000 catering establishments in order to indicate the level of hygiene and food safety. The system will affect not only Dubai restaurants, but also cafes, companies specializing in catering services, as well as food manufacturers.

According to the results of the inspection by the inspectors of the municipality, one or another organization related to catering will receive a card of the corresponding color, available to all visitors or customers, in the case of food manufacturers. A green card means from 95 points out of 100, lime color means minor violations and a satisfactory score of 90-94 points. Yellow (75-89 points) is an indicator of either one serious violation, or a maximum of seven minor.

Red is the color for two or more major violations, or seven or more minor ones. Such a card gives its holder only 60-74 points, as well as the opportunity to correct on time without a public demonstration of red color to visitors for the period of work on the errors. Gross violations include the storage of food at the wrong temperature conditions.
