Dubai, UAE. The bus driver of the Omani company Mwasalat, who got into an accident in Dubai on June 6 this year, was sentenced by the court to seven years in prison and payment of compensation to the relatives of 17 dead passengers in the amount of 3.4 million dirhams (US $ 931 thousand).

In addition, a 53-year-old driver from Oman will pay a fine of AED 50 thousand (US $ 13.7 thousand) for traffic violations and will be deported from the UAE after serving a prison term.

It is worth recalling that an accident in which 17 passengers were killed and 13 passengers were injured occurred on June 6 in the vicinity of the Rashidiya metro station. The driver of the tourist bus, traveling from Muscat to Dubai, exceeded speed, ignored warning signs, which led to a collision with a sign - a height limiter, which literally rammed the bus. The accident killed 12 immigrants from India, two Pakistanis, as well as citizens of the Philippines and Ireland.
