Passenger injured by water gun salvo at Dubai Airport

Details of the incident at Dubai Airport, during which a volley from the water cannon of a fire truck knocked out the door of a passenger liner, were announced.

Details of the incident became known when during a failed salute from a water cannon at a Dubai airport, a passenger from a flight from Saudi Arabia was injured.

The incident occurred on September 20, 2018, when in honor of the celebration of National Day of Saudi Arabia at the Dubai International Airport, a salute of water guns was organized for flight SV566. This was stated in a statement by the UAE Civil Aviation Administration, published on the agency’s website.

However, due to the abnormal operation of the robotic fire barrel on one of the fire engines, a powerful jet of water dropped below the planned level and squeezed out one of the emergency doors on the port side of the Airbus A320 airliner. At the same time, the emergency exit hatch was thrown into the passenger compartment by force of pressure, which led to the emergency operation and deployment of the emergency inflatable ramp.

Unfortunately, one of the passengers was slightly injured during the incident. After a medical examination, the condition of the injured passenger did not cause medical concern and he was released, as he expressed a desire to continue his journey.

Creating a water arch from powerful jets of fire hoses of fire trucks is a tradition accepted in aviation. It is customary to meet with a water arch the first flight of a new flight arriving at the airport, as well as celebrating anniversary flights, the arrival of new types of aircraft that the airport did not accept earlier, or for other special occasions.
