The symbol of the Special Olympics "Flame of Hope" came from Athens to Abu Dhabi.
Dubai, UAE. The fire of the Special Olympics called Flame of Hope arrived from Athens to Abu Dhabi on February 28 with a special Etihad Airways flight. His arrival marked the countdown to the start of the competition, which will start in the UAE capital on March 14.
The plane in a livery, decorated with symbols of the Special Olympics and portraits of athletes of the national team of the UAE, arrived at Abu Dhabi International Airport at 17.15 local time. He was met by UAE military personnel and national folk groups led by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Tolerance, and Hessa Bukhumeyd, Minister of Public Development.
Fire is a symbol of courage and global efforts to combat discrimination against people with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics is held for the first time in the Middle East. Thus, the UAE paves the way for combating stereotypes that are associated with disability.
Within 10 days, the Flame of Hope will travel through the 4th emirates, and on March 14 it will be lit at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi in the presence of 40 thousand spectators.
