Abu Dhabi recognized as the smartest city in the region

The capital of the United Arab Emirates tops the ranking of smart cities in the region.

Abu Dhabi ranks first in the ranking of smart cities in Africa and the Middle East, according to a McKinsey Global Institute study Smart Cities: Digital Solutions for a Comfortable Future.

The study examined how cities around the world use technology to improve the quality of life. A large number of aspects are being taken into account, including health, security, transport, economic development and housing. With a rating of 18.4, Abu Dhabi took first place in the region, and Dubai - second with a rating of 17.3.

A report on 50 cities around the world talks about how the use of technology improves people's quality of life. Technology affects many aspects of life - from clean air to whether citizens feel safe.

For a city to earn smart status, it must demonstrate a solid digital infrastructure, including a network of sensors and data collection devices, integrated broadband and wireless networks and platforms on which data can be stored and used.
