Dubai will expand roads in connection with Expo 2020

The Dubai Traffic and Transportation Authority has launched the 3 and 4 stages of road expansion for Expo 2020.

According to the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Ibn Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on the start of construction of roads and transport facilities for Expo 2020, the Dubai Traffic and Transport Administration (RTA) placed a contract for stages 3 and 4 road construction in preparation for the exhibition. The objective of the project is to provide traffic without traffic jams for visitors to the Expo, as well as for future projects.

The project involves the expansion of two intersections: Sheikh Zayed Ibn Hamdan Al Nahyan Street with Jebel Ali Lebaba Street and Al Yalaesh Street, as well as the construction of two overpasses on Sheikh Zayed Ibn Hamdan Al Nahyan Street near Dubai Investment Park. Sheikh Zayed Ibn Hamdan Al Nahyan Street will be expanded from two to five lanes in each direction. The total cost of construction at these two stages is about 1.3 billion dirhams.

Mr. Mattar Al Thayer, Head and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Dubai Traffic and Transport Authority, said: “Improving the network of roads leading to the Expo is one of the largest transport projects currently underway by our agency to meet the needs of the Expo 2020 in Dubai. "In view of the enormous scale, the project was divided into six stages, all work will be completed long before the Expo begins in accordance with the approved schedule."
