Northern Emirate ranks fifth in a study compiled by Skyscanner.ae/hotels, a travel search engine for tourists. In the list of 100 cities offering the cheapest rooms in five-star hotels, only the Egyptian Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada, as well as Malaysian Kuala Lumpur and Bulgarian Sofia were able to get around Sharjah.
The cost of living in a five-star hotel room in Sharjah is on average 49 Dirhams ($ US 135) per night. In Sharm el-Sheikh, an average of 389 dirhams ($ US 106) is paid for a luxurious room.
Sharjah invests heavily in its tourism sector. 1.5 billion dirhams ($ US 410 million) were allocated for the expansion of the international airport. The project includes a large-scale expansion of the passenger terminal over the next four years, which will increase the capacity of Sharjah International Airport to 20 million passengers by 2027.
The data also showed that Abu Dhabi took 26th place in the list of cities with the cheapest five-star numbers.
