In Ukraine, Ukrainian woman convicted of attack on her compatriot

A female lawyer of Ukrainian descent, who disfigured the face of her compatriot, will spend three months in a Dubai prison.

The Dubai Court of Appeal upheld a three-month prison term for a woman lawyer of Ukrainian descent who mutilated her compatriot’s face with a piece of glass on New Year’s Eve.

In October, the Dubai Court of First Instance decided to imprison the 26-year-old accused for assaulting the victim. She was also fined 1,000 dirhams ($ 272) for drinking alcohol.

The defendant tried to appeal the decision in the Court of Appeal, but the application was rejected because she filed it later than the 15-day time limit allowed.

The defendant will be deported after the end of the prison term.

The incident occurred during a New Year's party in the apartment of a 29-year-old victim, where she lived with her husband. The lawyer came to the apartment with her friends - a Moldovan couple. At about 3 a.m., she invited the victim to a conversation regarding the husband of the victim, who, according to the accused, cheated on his wife and the Moldavian woman present at the party.

The victim’s husband and Moldavian woman denied having a romance.

After that, the accused hit the victim with a shot glass in the face, which led to a deep cut on her cheek. The victim’s husband took her to the hospital. Meanwhile, police detained the attacker.

A Moldovan couple and the victim’s husband told the court that they had heard the accused curse the victim in Russian and tell her that she hated her.
