UAE resident buys home for her housekeeper

In gratitude for the dedicated work, an employer from Abu Dhabi presented his maid with a house in his homeland.

A 45-year-old single mother of Filipino descent, Dina Tenerife Selo, a servant working in Abu Dhabi, told the Khaleej Times that she would soon become the owner of a house in her hometown. Thus, she was thanked by the employer, Melissa McPike, an American who received UAE citizenship after marriage to a citizen of the country.

“I don’t have a penny of savings after working in the UAE for two decades. Now my dream comes true thanks to my employer,” said the maid.

The property is registered in the name of the 21-year-old son of a servant. The village said that on January 18 she flew home for the whole year, and her employer’s son, Said Al Muhairi, went with her to help build the house.

"When my house is completed, my employer and her two sons promised to come to me and stay as my guests," said Selo.

Melissa McPike said that this was the least she could do for her maid, whom she considered a member of her family.
