Kazakhstan summarizes election results of deputies of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the country

Last week, the Central Election Commission announced the preliminary results of the election of deputies of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
According to the data provided by the regional election commissions of the cities of Astana and Almaty, the elections were held in all regions of the republic. On August 18, 2007, voting took place at 9727 polling stations. The ballot included the names of the seven political parties that registered the party lists. According to preliminary data provided by the regional, cities of Astana and Almaty, election commissions, the votes were distributed as follows:
  • For the National Social Democratic Party - 4.62% of the vote.
  • For the People’s Democratic Party "Nur Otan" - 88.05% of the vote.
  • For the Party of Patriots - 0.75% of the vote.
  • For the Kazakhstan Social Democratic Party "Auyl" - 1.58% of the vote.
  • For the Democratic Party of Kazakhstan, AK ZHOL - 3.27% of the vote.
  • For the party "Rukhaniyat" - 0.41% of the vote.
  • For the Communist People’s Party of Kazakhstan - 1.31% of the vote.

According to the estimates of foreign observers representing the OSCE, SCO and CIS missions, as well as independent experts, the election of deputies of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan was legitimate, free and open. In general, they met the requirements of national legislation and international standards. The technical flaws identified during the voting as a whole did not significantly affect their overall results.
It should be noted that on August 18, 2007, at the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the United Arab Emirates in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Dubai at polling station No. 185, elections to the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan were also held on party lists. The voting was attended by diplomats, employees of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the UAE in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of Kazakhstan in Dubai and members of their families, as well as Kazakhstani citizens living in the UAE.
The heads of the diplomatic missions of the Russian Federation, Azerbaijan and Armenia familiarized themselves with the work of the polling station at the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Abu Dhabi. The guests praised the level of socio-political transformations taking place in Kazakhstan.
