The Etihad National Museum in the United Arab Emirates is recognized as "the best new museum in the region."
The Etihad Museum in the UAE is named the “Best New Museum in the Middle East and Africa” at the London's Best Cultural Institutions Award Ceremony. This was announced by the Dubai Office of Culture and Arts, a specialized agency of the emirate for culture, art and heritage.
The museum also won first place in the category "Best Museum Architecture of the Year".
The prestigious award was received by representatives of the agency that manages Etihad, permanent and temporary exhibitions and educational programs, as well as the Office of Roads and Transport (RTA) of Dubai, which was responsible for the design and construction of the museum.
Commenting on this achievement, His Excellency Abdul Rahman Al Ovays, Minister of Health and Prevention of the UAE and Chairman of the Board of Directors for Dubai Culture, commented: “I would like to present this award to His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bahn Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces UAE forces and members of the Supreme Federal Council, because it reflects their vision of what Etihad Museum is a national, cultural and tourist attraction in the United Arab Emirates, which tells the citizens, residents and visitors to the base of the political history of the nation in 1971 and honors the founding fathers. "
His Excellency added: "This recognition testifies to the success achieved by the museum in a short period of time in strengthening its position in the international tourism world."
He added that this award is related to the efforts of the Office of Culture in supporting the UAE's strategy to enhance the country's reputation around the world to emphasize the UAE’s heritage, identity and culture.
"This award will encourage our team to continue to pursue our ambitions to expand the rich cultural potential of Dubai and the UAE in accordance with the strategic goals of Dubai Plan 2021, whose goal is to elevate the emirate as a city of happy, creative and having a lot of opportunities for people," the minister added.
He also noted the desire of the Office of Culture to develop the museum sector in Dubai and the role of the Etihad Museum in the future cultural life of the country.
Since its opening, the museum has served as a cultural center for citizens and residents. His Excellency Mattar Al-Thayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, emphasized the importance of remembering the achievements that the Founding Fathers made to unite the emirates.
The museum is located underground and is connected to the entrance to the Union House and the Guest House. It is surrounded by a historical monument, which was restored in 1971.
