Step over conventions

Pablo Picasso's early works are the embodiment of his search for style, combining the influence of Cezanne, African art, Spanish sculpture. "Three figures under a tree" is a work that clearly demonstrates this period.

Brutal figures on Picasso’s canvases of the classical period (Village Dance, Flute Pan) are monumental and filled with epic strength, but something touching and sad permeates the very idea of the plots, reflecting the author’s words - "who is sad, he is sincere."

Picasso is considered to be the founder of the modernist movement of Cubism in painting and sculpture. At the beginning of the twentieth century, when young academics and artists were actively looking for their own style, having corrected the existing painting technique, Picasso laid the foundation for a new style by constructing volumetric forms on a plane, clearly breaking them into geometric elements. But it is impossible to identify one-sidedly the artist only with monumental cubism, for his work is as multifaceted as it is unique.

Cubism, the classical period and the transition to surrealism are most fully represented by the exhibition: “Violin”, “Still Life with a Guitar”, “Cat that Caught the Bird”, “Portrait of Olga”, “Woman in a Red Armchair”, “Acrobat”, “Figures on the beach "...

Salvador Dali wrote about Picasso, comparing it with Raphael: “The pole opposite to Raphael is just as big but cursed. Cursed, like anyone who rebels against tradition, destroys it and tramples, it’s not without reason that all of his works bear a glimpse of slavish rage. He is trying to throw off the chains, but he is burdened by the drawing, and the color, and the composition, and the prospect - that's all. "

Wandering around the exhibition halls with the works of Picasso, I tried to catch this “glimpse of slavish rage”, but apparently I was still far from the feelings of geniuses, therefore, I just got an incredible aesthetic pleasure by touching a small fraction of the work of the great Pablo.
