MCLAREN MP4-12C. A new era of racing cars

We have good news for sports car fans. The long-awaited Middle East premiere took place in Dubai: McLaren Automotive introduced its new MP4-12C racing car, which, according to manufacturers, marks the start of a new era of premium racing cars.

Lightweight, practical, dynamic, innovative, effective, convenient and safe. This should be a real sports car. And creating such cars is still a challenge. McLaren Automotive introduced its new creation - the MP4-12C sports car. The introduction of this concept car was the beginning of the development of the production line of premium sports cars. The production of new facilities and records, unique and innovative, customer service at a higher quality level - this is a new step in the development of McLaren Automotive. Despite the fact that the manufacturer has been successfully existing on the market for quite some time and is an expert in its field, the time is coming when the maturity of the company and its future depend on development and expansion - this was the principle McLaren representatives were guided by when they created the MP4-12C. The passion for designing new and the mentality of the winner are an excellent foundation and potential for success.

POWERFUL AND EASY

The new two-seater sports car is equipped with rear-wheel drive, it is powerful and light, thanks to unique engineering solutions. It should be noted that weight reduction has become an almost obsessive idea of ​​the developers of this amazing car, and all sorts of moves were used for this, including special attention was paid to the design of the MP4-12C.

One of the technical innovations that affected the weight reduction and increased productivity of the McLaren car was the carbon fiber composite chassis Carbon MonoCell. It weighs less than 80 kg, which is 25% less than a similar aluminum construction. In addition, the hydrocarbon base adds stiffness, efficiency and safety to the MP4-12C.

The use of hydrocarbon fiber increases the service life, unlike metal structures, it will last for decades. Thanks to this capital approach to weight reduction, the dry weight of the new McLaren is 1300 kg, which is significantly less than its main racing competitors. In order for the car to use all its data at full power and show the best results, the engine is located in the center relative to the body - this provides better traction.

The MP4-12C is equipped with a twin-turbocharged, 3.8-liter V8 - M838T engine (McLaren - 8 cylinders - 3.8 liters - Turbo). It is able to provide 600 hp. at 7000 rpm. In general, the torque of this motor can reach 8500 rpm. The maximum torque is 599 Nm at 3000 rpm. In addition, the M838T engine produces less CO2 gas emissions of 300 gm per kilometer. This marks the beginning of a new era in the segment of the main sports cars - less power, light weight, high efficiency and more economical power units.

INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR

The interior of the new racing car is designed in a general concept. The driver and passenger seats are located close enough to each other, which gives the driver confidence and complete control in the management and placement of the car on the road. All controls were custom made exclusively for McLaren. On the instrument panel, among other things, there is a large tachometer and a digital speed indicator. The on-board computer with jewelry accuracy will execute all the driver’s commands, all control panels are conveniently located in the driver’s reach so that he does not have to make unnecessary movements.

As we have already noted, the McLaren MP4-12C exterior design was based on the concept of creating excellent aerodynamics, compactness, practicality and comfort. The cleanliness of the lines determined the character of the car, and the combination of convex and concave surfaces integrated into a single whole racing car gives balanced proportions and a feeling of lightness. MP4-12C is a single streamlined solid body.

A great example of a combination of aerodynamics and engineering innovations in the exterior design: the very low and narrow front of the car. Two cooling radiators are located on the sides behind the passengers, which gives additional space savings under the hood. In addition, this arrangement of radiators allows their airflow to be used to cool the engine.

The front of the McLaren MP4-12C is dominated by large and distinctive air intakes. Removable front splitter, bi-xenon headlights with LED running lights, McLaren logo, large windshield, low hood - this is the “face” of the new McLaren. All this fast and lightweight design rests on alloy wheels, 19-inch in front, 20-inch in rear, Pirelli tires (235/35 R19: 305/30 R20) designed specifically for 12C. These unique wheels carry a rather compact body: the length of the car is 4507 mm, the width of the front axle is 1895 mm, and the rear axle is 1908 mm, and the height is 1199 mm. Wheelbase is 2670 mm.

This unique new racing car in 2011 will go on sale at branded car dealerships in the UAE and neighboring countries of the region.
