Masafi in UAE strives to reduce carbon dioxide emissions

Masafi, which produces bottled water in the UAE, will now use a new technology in its production - more environmentally friendly bottles. The result of this innovation will be the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. New plastic bottles are 23% lighter and less hazardous to the environment. They weigh only 13 g, while their predecessors weighed 16 g.

Improved technology will help the Masafi manufacturer reduce the amount of PET and HDPE (high density polyethylene terephthalate and high density polyethylene) plastic used by approximately 645 tons, and this, in turn, will reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by 0.023 kg per bottle. 500 ml PET bottles will be 18.7% lighter, and the weight of the bottle using HDPE will decrease by 30%, from 2.5 to 1.75 g. In this case, the plastic water tanks will remain as strong as before. .

Bottles made using the new technology were subjected to numerous strength tests by the manufacturer.

The launch of bottled products manufactured using the new technology is another step towards the implementation of a special initiative by Masafi, launched in 2008. The manufacturer’s plan aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the UAE through the use of more environmentally friendly technologies in production.
