Abu Dhabi became the first capital of the region to win the Blue Flag

For the first time in the region of the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council, the United Arab Emirates won the Blue Flag, an international quality mark that marks the beaches and yachts. Its owner was the promenade of Abu Dhabi. Only the beaches and yachts-marinas that comply with strict international standards in such categories as environmental protection, water quality, public safety and the quality of services mark the blue flag in the world.

Abu Dhabi is the first capital of the Arab state to receive this prestigious award from the World Wildlife Fund in the UAE (EWS-WWF), which coordinates the Blue Flag program at the national level in the UAE.

In total, since the launch of this program in 1987, the Blue Flag has already won 3,550 beaches and marinas from 40 countries. The Blue Flag is awarded each time for one season. The main point of this award is to promote sustainable development strategies for beaches and marinas and their achievement of international quality standards.
